Four armchairs

They differ less in looks than in how much room they take and what they can do.

What they are made of

The construction is similar across all four; what differs is the thicknesses and what sits on top.

• Frame — Plywood and bent-glued plywood: 9 mm in the seat, 18 mm in the back. Armrests in 16 mm sanded board.
• Ecofoam orthopaedic foam — The same main working layer as in Veneto mattresses and sofas. It does not settle under weight and holds its shape for years.
• Wadding, 80 g/m² — A lofty layer over the foam: it adds softness without letting you sink.
• Fleece — An interlayer between filling and fabric — it holds the shape and stops the foam rubbing against the upholstery. From 15 to 60 g/m² depending on the model.
• Legs — It depends on the model: Markus stands on lacquered alder, Marvin on gold metal legs 30 cm high.
• Upholstery — Furniture fabric from eleven collections: Standart, Freedom, Glow, Symphony, Loft, Polaris, Palladium, Vogue, Diva, Genesis and Anthology.

How to choose

Four things worth settling before you order.

• Decide on the place first and the model second: 35 cm of width separates the smallest chair here from the largest, and they will sit in a corner very differently.
• If the chair will sometimes have to be a bed, buy the folding one — adding a second piece later costs more.
• A low seat suits reading, a higher one is easier to rise from. With older people in the house, choose the higher.
• Take the fabric from the same collection as your sofa: the chair then reads as part of a set rather than as a stray object.

Care

A few habits that add years to an armchair.

• Vacuum the upholstery with a soft attachment once a week.
• Deal with a spill straight away, blotting rather than rubbing.
• Once a year, check the leg fixings and tighten them if needed.
• Keep the chair away from radiators and direct sunlight: fabric fades and the lacquer on the legs dulls.
