VENETO mattresses — how to choose your own comfort
A good mattress does not have to be the firmest, the tallest or the most expensive. What matters is that it suits you: in how comfortable it feels, in firmness, in construction, in permissible load and in size.
The VENETO collection has sprung and springless mattresses of different firmness, height and filling. So as not to get lost among specifications and technologies, start with a few simple questions.
Which firmness is comfortable for you?
Firmness is how soft or how springy the surface of the mattress feels under load.
The VENETO catalogue has soft, medium, medium-firm and firm models. Most models are medium firmness — a universal feel, and a convenient place to start choosing from.
But there is no universal firmness that suits absolutely everyone. The choice is affected by weight, by your usual sleeping position, by personal feel and by the construction of the mattress itself.
Some models have two sides of different firmness. VENETO Duet, for example, has a firm side and a medium one — the feel of the sleeping surface can be changed simply by turning the mattress over.
If the mattress is being chosen with particular medical advice in mind, it is better to agree the firmness with a doctor beforehand.
Sprung or springless?
This is one of the main decisions of construction when choosing a mattress.
pocket springs
Sprung mattresses
Most sprung VENETO models use independent Multi Pocket Spring units.
Each spring works on its own, responding to the load in its own zone. That lets the surface adapt to the body and reduces the transfer of movement across the mattress — a particularly useful property in a double bed.
Some models use other spring systems, among them Double Active Zone, Honeycomb Multi Pocket Spring and Orthopedic Flex polymer spring units. The exact technology and combination of layers depend on the model.
layers, no springs
Springless mattresses
In springless models the support and the feel of comfort come from a combination of layers of foam, latex, coconut fibre and other materials.
Such mattresses have no metal spring unit, and their firmness and springiness depend on the composition and the thickness of the layers.
It is better to choose between a sprung and a springless mattress not by asking which is better in general, but by which feel of a sleeping surface you like yourself.
What is inside VENETO mattresses?
Different VENETO models use different combinations of materials. Each of them affects the springiness, the firmness, the adaptivity or the structural stability of the mattress.
Ecofoam — An orthopaedic foam used in many VENETO models. Depending on the construction of the mattress it can form comfort layers and supporting layers.
Memoryfoam — An anatomical foam that responds to load and adapts to the contours of the body. It is used in some models for a softer, more enveloping feel.
Latex Care — Natural latex — a springy, elastic material used in the comfort layers of some mattresses.
Cocos Shield — Natural latexed coconut. A dense material used to increase the firmness and the stability of particular layers of the construction.
Aero Latex and Latex Support — Latexed foams, used in some VENETO models to form a springy comfort layer.
ReFiberMix — A thermal felt which, in some sprung models, serves a structural purpose between the spring unit and the other layers of the mattress.
The composition of a particular model is always worth checking on its product page: two mattresses of the same firmness can feel completely different because of a different construction.
What does "winter / summer" mean?
It is important not to confuse this feature with sides of different firmness.
In models with a "winter / summer" effect the sides differ in the materials of the cover or of its quilting. In VENETO Comfort Multi, for example, the summer side contains Cottonterm and the winter side Woolterm.
It is a separate feature, and it does not automatically mean that one side of the mattress is soft and the other firm.
If what you need is two levels of firmness, look for the feature "Sides of different firmness".
Weight and permissible load
When choosing a mattress, always pay attention to the maximum load per sleeping place.
In the VENETO catalogue this figure differs with the construction of the particular model. So two mattresses of the same size and firmness can be rated for different loads.
For a double mattress the parameter has to be assessed for each user separately, because the specifications give the load per sleeping place.
If the weight is close to the maximum permissible figure, it is worth consulting our staff before buying and comparing several models.
How to choose the right size?
A mattress is chosen to match the size of the sleeping area of the bed or the base.
The VENETO catalogue offers a wide choice of standard sizes — from singles to large doubles. The exact list of sizes depends on the model.
If you are buying a new bed together with a mattress, the simplest thing is to choose them as a set straight away. That way you avoid a mistake with the size and can check that the mattress is compatible with the base.
What else to look at?
Besides firmness and construction, compare a few more things.
Height. It differs substantially between models. Take it into account together with the height of the base and of the bed itself.
Cover. The catalogue has models with removable and with non-removable covers. If being able to take the outer cover off matters to you, check this before ordering.
Mattress topper. Some VENETO models come with a topper, some do not.
Guarantee. The guarantee period depends on the particular model. On VENETO Family Style Plus and VENETO Duet, for example, the site states a 20-year guarantee.
Production speed. For some models and popular sizes the "72 hours" programme applies. The current availability of a particular mattress is worth checking at the moment of ordering.
How to choose a mattress in a few minutes?
Start with five questions:
What size of mattress do you need?
Which firmness is more comfortable for you?
Do you prefer a sprung or a springless mattress?
What maximum load does one sleeping place have to take?
Which extra features matter to you: sides of different firmness, a "winter / summer" effect, a removable cover, a topper?
Answer those, and a large catalogue narrows to a few models you can then compare by how comfortable they feel, by their materials and by budget.
And if you would rather not work through all the technologies yourself, VENETO staff will help you compare the models against your own criteria.
A mattress is better chosen together with its base
Even a well-chosen mattress needs a base to match.
Its size, its construction and the spacing between the slats all matter. So when buying a mattress for a bed you already have, it is worth checking the condition and the specifications of the base.
If you are choosing a VENETO bed, frame and mattress at the same time, they can be put together as one sleeping solution.
Looking after the mattress
The rules of care can differ with the construction of the particular model, so first of all follow the manufacturer's recommendations for your mattress.
For daily use it matters to protect the mattress from excess moisture and from dirt, to use a suitable base and to air the sleeping area from time to time.
If the model is double-sided, turn it in line with the recommendations for that particular product. Mattresses of different construction should not automatically be looked after on one universal schedule.
