Collection: Mattresses

Not sure which mattress you need?

An orthopaedic mattress is not something you buy only when your back already hurts. It is a surface that holds the spine in its natural position and spreads body weight so the muscles actually rest overnight. Veneto has been making these mattresses in Ukraine for more than 30 years. Below is a short guide to choosing yours: size, construction, firmness and filling.

Size

Sizes across the site are given in millimetres, exactly as in the product specification: the first number is the width of the sleeping surface, the second its length. Besides the standard sizes we make mattresses to order, which helps when the bed is not a standard one.

600–900 mm

Children’s

600×1200, 700×1400, 900×1600. For cots and teenagers’ rooms.

800–900 mm

Single

800×1900, 800×2000, 900×1900, 900×2000. A sleeping place for one.

1200–2000 mm

Small double and double

From 1200×1900 to 2000×2000. A small double suits one adult with room to spare, a double is made for two.

Spring and springless

What matters most is what is inside. The filling decides how the mattress behaves under the weight of the body.

spring

Bonnell spring unit

The springs are linked together. Gives an even balance and an even spread of weight, and lasts a long time.

spring

Multi Pocket Spring independent unit

Every spring sits in its own fabric pocket, so the mattress follows the body more closely and passes on less of your partner’s movement. Higher models use a two-level unit — Double Active Zone or the Honeycomb layout. It does not sag under the heavier partner, so a couple of different weights need not claim sides.

springless

Layered fillings

Each layer does its own job. The two sides can have different firmness — this is what the “winter/summer effect” filter refers to.

Firmness

Choosing “something soft” is the most common mistake. Firmness is matched to weight, age and the state of the spine. If you have a musculoskeletal condition, talk to a doctor first.

Soft
For people of light weight. Helps prevent problems with blood vessels, joints and the lower back.
Medium
The most universal option for a weight within the normal range.
Medium-firm
The step in between: support closer to firm, without the feel of a hard board.
Firm
For children, so the spine forms correctly. For adults above the normal weight range, as scoliosis prevention.

Fillings

We pick materials against two criteria at once: safe for the person and safe for the environment. Everything we make is certified.

  • Orthopedic foam Ecofoam — hypoallergenic, elastic and durable. Its density sets the firmness of the mattress.
  • Thermal felt ReFiberMix — holds its shape and lets air through. Heat-resistant and hard-wearing.
  • Natural latex Latex Care — gives the body a natural position and supports the spine. Silent and highly adaptive.
  • Natural latexed coir Cocos Shield — an environmentally clean material. Resists moisture and odours, strong and hypoallergenic.
  • Anatomical foam Memoryfoam — remembers the shape of the body. Gives a weightless feel and keeps its properties for years.

Spring or springless

A short comparison so you can weigh it up before buying.

Type Advantages Things to consider
Bonnell spring unit
  • Maximum support for the spine
  • Multi-zone technology
  • Greater height
  • May become slightly noisy over time
  • Heavier than a springless one
Multi Pocket Spring unit
  • Follows the body more closely
  • Springs of different firmness in one block
  • Passes on less movement
  • Costs more than a Bonnell unit
  • Heavier than a springless one
Springless
  • Moves with the body
  • Completely silent
  • Easy to transport
  • Wears faster under heavy daily load

When choosing, take into account your weight, age, favourite sleeping position, lifestyle and your doctor’s advice.

Orthopaedic or anatomical

support

Orthopaedic

The surface holds the skeleton in the right position and relieves the muscles by spreading weight. Suits children and adults within the normal weight range, both as prevention and to undo the effects of daily strain.

follows the shape

Anatomical

The surface follows the shape of the body and gives a weightless feel. Not for children while the spine is still forming, nor for heavier people: the depth it can sink is limited.

If you have a musculoskeletal condition, consult a doctor before buying.

Care

A few simple habits noticeably extend the life of a mattress. Our staff will give you the detailed instructions for your model.

  • The base under the mattress must be flat.
  • A mattress protector or cover keeps out moisture and dirt.
  • Every three months turn the mattress over and swap the head and foot ends.
  • Air the mattress at least twice a year.
  • After wet cleaning, let it dry naturally.
  • Store and transport the mattress upright.
