A chair has to be comfortable every day, match the table in height and dimensions, and sit naturally in the interior. The VENETO catalogue has chairs for the kitchen and the dining room, for a bar area, a living room, a bedroom, a study and other spaces.
To pick the right one, start not with colour but with how it will be used: where the chair will stand, how long you usually sit, how much free space there is around the table, and which seating position is more comfortable for you.
Which type of chair to choose
For the kitchen and the dining room
For a dining area you can choose a chair with a wooden or an upholstered seat, or a model with an upholstered back. Some models come in two versions — with a wooden and with an upholstered seat, within the same design. That lets you choose the more practical or the softer option without changing the overall look of the furniture.
In a small kitchen the width and the depth of the chair matter most. In a spacious dining room you can give more attention to the shape of the back, to how soft the seat is and to the look of the upholstery.

Choosing well takes more than the overall height of the piece: the distance from the floor to the seat matters too. If that figure is given in the product specifications, compare it with the height of your own counter. If it is not — check the seat height before ordering.

For a living room, a bedroom or a study, the models made for a more relaxed seating position are the ones to look at. The lounge chairs in the current range have a base of about 490 × 470 mm, an overall height of 850–870 mm and a floor-to-seat height of 450 mm.
In this format what matters most is the shape and the support of the back, the depth of the seat, the softness, and how much free space there is around the furniture.
How to choose the right size of chair
Among the current VENETO dining chairs the width runs to about 445–510 mm, the depth 420–600 mm and the overall height 778–970 mm. These ranges help you judge how much room a chair will take up before you move on to the specifications of a particular product.
For a compact kitchen, look at the lower part of the width and depth ranges. If there is room enough and the chair will be used for sitting a long time, the deeper and more generous versions are worth considering.
Do not go by the overall length of the table top alone. Measure the distance between the legs or the supports of the table — it is that space which decides how many chairs will actually fit side by side.
Leave enough room behind the chair as well, so that it can be pushed back and sat on without hitting a wall or other furniture.
The way dimensions are written can differ between product pages, so before ordering go by the labelled width, depth and height of the particular piece.
A wooden or an upholstered seat
The choice between a wooden and an upholstered seat depends above all on how often and how long you use the chair.
A wooden seat
A wooden surface is practical for daily use and simple to look after. It is easy to wipe, so it suits the kitchen and other areas where furniture is in heavy use.
The seating is firmer, though, which is worth taking into account if you are used to sitting at the table for a long time.
An upholstered seat
An upholstered seat is more comfortable through long breakfasts, dinners, work or conversation at the table. The fabric also lets you bring the colour and the texture you want into the interior.
Fabric needs regular care, so for the kitchen it is worth considering not only the shade but the properties of the particular upholstery and the recommendations for cleaning it.
An upholstered back

Materials
VENETO chairs use natural wood, plywood, furniture fillings and fabrics, and in some constructions metal.
A large part of the wooden models use solid oak, and some use beech. The species of wood and the construction depend on the chair you choose, so they are worth checking in the product specifications.
Some of the lounge models list Ecofoam foam. Not every product page for an upholstered dining chair states the type of filling, so Ecofoam should not be taken as a property of every upholstered chair in the category.
Wood finishes
For a large part of the range VENETO offers a system of finishes for the wooden elements, which lets the furniture be adapted to the colours of the interior and brings out the natural texture of the wood.

- Natural wax oil 1-007 — keeps the natural character of the wood.
- White oil 2-001 — makes the wood look lighter.
- Smoked oil 2-003 — adds a muted greyish-brown tone.
- Black paint — gives a contrasting, graphic look.
Which finish is available depends on the piece you choose.
How to choose the upholstery
The colour of the fabric is worth choosing together with its texture and its practical properties.
For a kitchen and a dining room, care matters particularly: if the chairs are used every day, check the cleaning recommendations for the fabric you choose beforehand.
Light upholstery can make furniture look lighter, dark upholstery creates a sharper contrast. Chairs do not have to repeat the colour of a sofa, a bed or other upholstered furniture exactly. A harmonious combination can be built on close shades, on the temperature of the colour, or on a deliberate contrast.
If there is a cat or a dog in the house, the texture and the properties of the fabric are worth particular attention.
How to look after chairs
Regular, uncomplicated care helps keep the look of the furniture for longer.
- Vacuum the dust off the upholstery with a soft attachment.
- Blot fresh marks rather than rubbing at them.
- Clean the upholstery with products recommended for that particular type of fabric.
- Wipe wooden surfaces with a well-wrung damp cloth, then dry them off.
- Check the fixings from time to time and tighten them if needed.
- Do not put wooden furniture hard against sources of strong heat.
