So long have you been choosing, comparing, and now you finally own the perfect sofa.
How do you clean a couch?

It delighted with its impeccable appearance, comfort and ergonomics.

Until someone knocked over a glass of sweet juice on it or a pet left quote marks on the upholstery. Is this a familiar situation? But a stain on your new couch isn't always no reason to call the dry cleaners.

We're ready to share the best ways to keep your sofa looking as good as new.

Clean textile upholstery without chemicals

Did you spill coffee or juice on the sofa? First of all, you need to determine the exact material from which the upholstery was sewn. The fact is that there is a wide range of fabrics on the market and not every one of them can be washed.
So, if your sofa is covered with flock, chenille or corduroy, it will easily tolerate wet cleaning.

But jacquard, tapestry or microfiber with a probability of 99% will not appreciate your efforts. These materials are best cleaned using a moisture-free foam or dry cleaning.

If you want to freshen up your carpeting, use a simple trick - throw a slightly damp sheet over the surface and then go over it with a carpet beater. In just a few minutes, the dust embedded in the upholstery will remain on the sheet, and the coating will become noticeably brighter.

Another problem with textile surfaces is greasiness. This nuisance is easy to get rid of with the help of a foam solution based on simple laundry soap. It should be applied to the greasy area, then let the foam absorb and soften the dirt. The soap residue is removed with a clean cotton cloth and then dried with a hair dryer.

Salt water and vinegar can help clean finicky upholstery fabrics such as tapestry or jacquard. In a small container add water, a teaspoon of salt and baking soda, mix the contents thoroughly. Then soak a clean piece of cloth in the solution, squeeze and wrap the nozzle of the vacuum cleaner. Vacuum the sofa for a few minutes. A simple procedure will help you quickly get rid of dirt on the fabric surface, giving it brightness and removing embedded odors. Getting rid of “tough” stains.

Spilled juice, coffee or wine - these are the so-called “difficult” stains, and if they “paint” on your upholstery for a long time, to get rid of them without specialized means will not work. But it is possible to cope with fresh such contaminations:

  • Spilled juice. It is easily removed from the surface with the help of water mixed with ammonia alcohol (1 spoon of means per 1 liter of water). Soak a clean cloth in the solution, and then pass it around the perimeter of the stain. After cleaning the contamination, wash off the remnants of the product with a damp sponge and dry the wet stain with a hair dryer.
  • Coffee and other “coloring” drinks. You can get rid of the pollution with a piece of laundry soap - rub the stain with it. To make the remedy work, leave the contaminated area soaped for 5-10 minutes, then remove the stain with a damp cotton cloth. Such stains should not be dried - let your favorite sofa dry on its own, previously blotted with a dry towel.
  • Wine. Wine stains need to be pre-absorbed, for example with salt. Sprinkle it on the soiled area, and for the final removal, use a soap solution. Helpful lifehacks will help you quickly get rid of stains on your favorite sofa, without resorting to the use of chemical means.
